Her Story ~ Marie
Marie is the pinnacle of a success story, and the Family Life Center (FLC) is very proud of her many accomplishments. She came to the center after being abused and sexually assaulted by her husband of over 40 years. She resided in the Shelter for several weeks and eventually enrolled in the Outreach Program for over five years. She received weekly counseling and attended support groups where she worked on assertiveness, self-esteem and independent living. She gained strength, developed insight to the cycle of violence, and was able to stand up to her abuser. With the support of FLC and supportive friends, she managed to escape her situation and found a safe place to stay She has been living self-sufficiently in a new violence-free home for a year now. She is ready to be on her own, overcome her challenges, and truly transform from a victim to a survivor.
