His Story ~ Robert
Robert grew up in a home with domestic violence. When he was 15 years old, he got in the middle of a physical fight between his mother and father. He had decided at that point that he would not “allow” his father to physically assault his mother any longer and threatened his father’s life should it ever happen again. Robert made a vow that he would never be like his father and hit a woman. “Robert” met, married and had two children with the love of his life. Shortly after his second child was born, his wife would belittle him, curse him and had even lunged at him a few times. Robert assumed it was due to the hormone changes of pregnancy and ignored the changes. As time went on, the insults and accusations became worse and his wife began slapping him. Robert pleaded with his wife to go to counseling to which she refused. Robert came across our website and called our hotline. He began coming to the Outreach office for peer-crisis-counseling sessions and soon realized the cycle of violence. After several sessions, Robert decided to move into his own apartment with his children. With the help of our advocates, he received legal assistance and an injunction for protection. Robert and his children are living violence free in our community today.
